Bako Northern Purchasing Division

Posted 05 October 2009

Over the past 6 months Bako Management has been evaluating its Purchasing operation. We have reviewed the strengths and weaknesses of what was in place and have built and improved on what has been identified as best practice.

Our aim has been to add resources to develop our teams and make them more efficient. This enables us to provide a more effective service for our customers and provide greater satisfaction through our keen pricing.

The main result of our findings has been to decentralise our synergy purchasing operation and develop a localised structure, forming 2 new Divisional Purchasing Teams, one to cover the Northern Sites and the other to cover the Southern Sites.

Each Division will split down its product list into categories so that they can then assign a Category Manager. The Managers will liaise and work closely with each other to provide a strategy which best fits each individual category.

This approach enables us to add further resource and expertise into what has been an over worked operation. Going forward we will be able to get even closer to our preferred supply partners, spend more time analysing commodity markets, assessing new lines and opportunities to expand our product range and keep you up to date with food industry trends.

The new structure has been in place now for 3 months and already, you will have noticed improvements in areas such as Sugar, Boxed Fats, Oils, Dried Fruit, Dairy and Lard.

Look out for improved pricing on selected lines from Puratos, Glycerine, McCain ‘A Grade’ Potato Flake, Hard Boiled Egg and Bottled Water.

All of the progress being made in these areas can be traced back to the excellent new work being carried out across the Purchasing Divisions and the market intelligence we are benefiting from as a result.

We believe the new and exciting approach has raised the bar for Bako Purchasing and will continue to pay dividends for you, our customer.
